Over the last quarter we have had eighteen new referrals, bringing the total so far this financial year to thirty-three. Through our home-visiting service, forty-six families have received support. Several parents have referred themselves after find out about us via our website or Facebook page. Social media is most definitely the modern way of communicating. The reasons for referrals vary considerably, some much more complex than others. Thanks to the skills of our wonderful volunteers we can match accordingly.
As a scheme we are currently working in close partnership with other services and organisations in our Borough. The newly formed North Spelthorne and South Spelthorne Local Family Partnerships are attended by staff to ensure the Home-Start service is promoted but also to gain knowledge of other ways in which families can be supported.
Surrey County Council’s Children’s Services department is currently undergoing a major review and restructure following their recent Ofsted inspection. This is likely to result in staff changes and ways of working which should mean a more efficient service for families. There will be a key focus on the “big three” issues – domestic abuse, adult mental health and substance misuse, which feature in 80% of children’s social care cases.
